  • Amide anesthetics
  • Bupivacaine (Marcaine®, Sensorcaine®)
  • Bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension
  • Mepivacaine (Carbocaine®, Polocaine®)

CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY

Seek emergency medical attention if any of the following occur after using lidocaine or any “-caine” product:

  • Sudden swelling of the lips, mouth, throat, or tongue
  • Rapid breathing, difficulty breathing, wheezing, choking, or gasping for air
  • Tightness in the throat or difficulty swallowing
  • Skin, lips, or tongue turning blue, gray, or pale (On darker skin tones, this may be more noticeable on the palms or soles of the feet)
  • Sudden confusion, extreme drowsiness, or dizziness
  • Fainting or inability to wake up
  • In children: limpness, poor responsiveness, difficulty holding up the head, or inability to focus
  • A rash that is swollen, raised, itchy, blistered, or peeling

These symptoms may indicate a severe allergic reaction and require immediate emergency medical treatment.
